The annual moot court competition has become a valued tradition for not only the middle and high school students, but for the law students as well. The law students are able to give back to the community by mentoring and coaching the students. They also have the opportunity to reinforce legal concepts and procedures they learn in law school. The moot court participants are able to connect directly with law students and with the lawyers and judges who judge the completion. It makes their dreams of becoming lawyers and judges tangible and within their reach. We need more programs like this throughout the state.

The Young Litigators Moot Court Competition was a constructive experience for both the law students and the competitors. As law students, we had the opportunity to mentor and coach youth who are interested in the field of law. The dedication of the youthful competitors reinvigorated law student volunteers and encouraged us to continue devoting our time and resources to support and better the community, which is the reason that many of us enrolled into law school.
The high school and middle school competitors benefited from the opportunity to learn and dialogue with law students. Many of the competitors have a desire to be attorneys, but have never spoken to an attorney, nor do they have a full understanding of what a lawyer's duties entail. This competition enabled the young competitors to get their questions answered and, also, acquire mentors that will provide positive guidance to them for many years to come. This experience improved their confidence, public speaking abilities, and helped them develop skills that will be critical as they matriculate into college and in many other aspects of their lives. I look forward to working with the Young Litigators Moot Court Competition for many years to come.
